CHRISTIAN AID
.

Christian Aid has a programme of suggestions for sponsored walking, slimrn1ng. running and so on. With the centrepiece of the action, a tremendous challenge for cyclists this  summer.

The date?  3 - 27th July 2008. The place ? London and then Paris.

The charity is inviting people to join their bike ride challenge between the two capitals, help raise money for poor communities worldwide and enjoy a cycle ride through scenic France. You'll even get io see the final stage of the Tour de France.

Who can join?

Whether you’re mad about cycling or just love a leisurely hike ride through the park, the event has been specifically designed with you in mind whatever your speed, endurance or experience. You will cycle for around six to eight hours a day, about 75 miles a day in four days.

It’s £99 to register, you agree to raise minimum sponsorship of £1,100 and you’ll he part of Christian Aid Cyclists. A dedicated events team will help you raise money and answer any questions.

SHIFNAL MUSICAL FESTIVAL 20)8
THURSDAY JULY 10th to SUNDAY JULY 13th
The town can look forward to a range of music from orchestral to choral,classical to jazz, along with blues, rock, folk and brass,
This is sponsored by Trinity and funds raised will go to the Trinity Project

 

 

 

The Annual General Meeting of Churches Together in Shifnal District was held at Trinity Methodist Church on March 12th 2008
Rev David Chantrey chaired the meeting.


John Hume was elected as Chairman
Zena Brown as Treasurer
Ann Small as Secretary.
Thanks were expressed to all the officers and volunteers who had worked hard for Churches Together and Oasis.

The Executive Committee was elected as follows:
 Ann Dakin, (St Andrew's) Rev Norman Owen, (Trinity) Teresa Hampton, (St Mary's) Angela Chatham, (Six Parishes).

The business of the AGM went through smoothly and events for the future were discussed and planned.
Fr Graham Fowell and the Rev David Chantrey were thanked for the work they had done in Churches Together. They are both leaving in April to take up new ministries. Fr Graham is moving to Stafford and David Chantrey to Wrockwardine. We wish them well and we shall keep them in our prayers.

 

Past  Events of Churches Together

The  Garden Tea  at Ryton House  the home of Chris & Paul Finlan was held on Saturday 30th April 2005  
2 - 5pm
Over £1000 was raised for the work of Oasis and everyone enjoyed an excellent family event in beautiful sunshine.
Thanks to all who helped and supported.

September 11th  The Farmyard Harvest Praise held at Drayton Lodge on September 11th was a huge success.
This was an excellent event and even though it was designed as a social and spiritual occasion with Songs of Praise with the Salvation Army Band approx £1000 was raised with a net profit of approx £700 for the work of Oasis and Churches Together.

We appreciate the kindness of Anne and Frank Dakin in opening their grounds to us, it really was a wonderful day for everyone.

The carol singing at Hatton Grange on December on December 16th was a huge success, with 80 plus singing enthusiastically accompanied by our own orchestra.
Our thanks to Rupert Kennyon-Slaney for the invitation.

The carol singing with the Salvation Army Band on Christmas Eve in Shifnal was a huge success with about 200 or more people joining in. Pictures of the event and the Shifnal Christmas lights can be seen on 'Churches Together Pictures'.

The Garden Tea at Sutton Hall on Saturday  20th May was very successful, even though it was not a sunny day. We thank our hosts Jackie and Ed Butlin for their  welcome and gracious hospitality, and allowing us to share their lovely garden. The event was designed as a social occasion rather than a money raiser. Our thanks to all those who worked hard and all who supported .
£1109 was raised for the work of 'Churches Together in Shifnal District'.

Christmas Celebrations 2006

Singing carols at Hatton Grange by kind invitation of Rupert Kenyon-Slaney
on Friday 15th December 2006. This was an excellent event and pictures are on Churches Together Pictures.

Carol singing around the tree in Shifnal with the Salvation Army Band on
Christmas Eve Sunday December 24th at 5-30pm. This was supported by a large number of people, all ages, from the Shifnal community. Salvation Armyband accompanied the singing. Pictures on 'Churches together pictures'.

Shifnal Men's Link meets about 4 times a year at 7pm for 7-30pm at Haughton Hall Hotel for a meal followed by a speaker.
