MINISTER'S LETTER
News from the USA tell us that the race between Clinton and Obama is over as Obama takes the nomination leaving Hilary with a rumoured $12 million debt, and America with the possibility of having its first black president. Yet the campaign is not over it simply changes up a gear with the race now being one of who will take the White House? News media reports daily on how things are going for both contestants giving both factual and rumoured tit bits on both candidates. This reporting includes the candidate’s wives with discussion on who would make the best First Lady. McCain’s wife is shown continuing her charity work with children in Vietnam, a country that held her husband prisoner during the war. Obama’s wife on the other hand is shown starting to get involved with the political arena. It is certain neither of them will evade criticism but that, as they say, is politics. With the race continuing now for the Gold Medal of American politics both athletes are starting to shed anything that will hinder their competitive edge preventing them from achieving the great accolade of President of the United Sates of America. In terms of the Christian Gospel we also are involved in a race one with heaven as its prize. The question has to be asked how we are doing as each leg of the journey brings us nearer the prize? Like the two Presidential candidates are we seeking to shed anything that would hinder our efforts in the journey to heaven and the great accolade of Jesus "Well done my good and faithful servant." The two candidates know its not over yet the race has a long way to go and efforts must be increased less they fall short of the mark. May we take this attitude for our own Christian race towards heaven. Revd Keith Hopper
